Introduction

Salt Lake County understands and values the importance of continuous learning and development.  To that end, and to support employee professional development, the County operates the Employees’ University which offers a variety of learning and career development opportunities.

Employees from line staff to executives can take advantage of online, half-day, full-day, and multi-day sessions that help build competencies and hone skills that are aligned with our organizational goals and objectives.

General course topics include (but are not limited to) interpersonal communication, effective written communication, managing accountability, policies & procedures, supervisor training, project management, presentation skills, and much more.  We also offer classes specifically designed for employees in administrative, financial, and other specific office professional job categories. 

In addition to general course offerings, we have two very successful certification programs: one for supervisors and another for managers.  Each certification program is offered through a partnership with the University of Utah and requires several core courses and a handful elective courses for certification.  Participants are provided with important information and tools designed to help them innovate and implement effective change while developing their careers.

Employees are encouraged to frequently visit our Class Calendar which shows scheduled courses throughout the year.

Bureaucracy Busters

The Employees' University is encouraging participants to in our Management Certification Program to work with Bureaucracy Busters to apply the skills they are learning in their classes and chip away at unnecessary red-tape and introduce new and better ways of doing business.
